I am so proud to be able to announce that I have joined Mixed Up Magazine’s Blog Challenge Team. Each month we are given a theme to work from. The theme for June is bold colors and it is sponsored by DecoArt.
The great thing is that you can play along. At the beginning of each month, Mixed Up will share the challenge team blog posts and challenge you to create a mixed media piece that fits the challenge. At the end of each month one lucky person will win an awesome prize.
Here is my project for June – a Dylusions Paper Flag. I began with a small piece of watercolor paper. Using the stencil shown along with dylusions paint in lemon zest and postbox red, I laid down a yellow background with red brick designs. Then applied the coordinating stamp with Ranger’s archival ink in black.
I wanted to add Dylusions cool spider-web stencil/stamp set on this piece too. So I used the same technique with Dylusions periwinkle blue on a scrap piece of watercolor paper. I fussy cut around the web shapes and applied it to the top of my flag.
Next I stamped two images, one from the fish face set and the other from the plenty of fish in the sea set, to create a fun mermaid.
I color my merdmaid in with a combination of mijello mission gold watercolors and dylusions paints. I connected her tail to her body with a small brad so that her tail can be moved back and forth. I applied scor-tape to the torso and head and attached her to the paper background. A white posca pen adds some little details on the bricks. I also added some washi tape and a stamped Dylusions sentiment. I punched two small holes at the top to add some butchers twine. Voila! I hope you enjoyed this and will try it yourself.
