Happy Birthday to Me!

I recently celebrated my birthday and my husband gifted me a lot of new art journaling supplies. It’s been almost a week, but I have finally find some time to get into those fun new items and bust out an art journal page.

Here is the breakdown:

Supplies:

Dina Wakley Washi Tapes

Dina Wakley Paints in Sedona, Olive, Peacock and Scribble Sticks

Dina Wakley Stencils Jumbled Numbers, Wallpaper, The Best Hearts

Dina Wakley Stamps Scribbly Wings, Scribbled Silhouettes

Dina Wakley Media Collage Papers “Backgrounds” and “Collage Words”

Fude ball pen, Matte Medium, Dylusions Ink Spray, Ranger Black Archival Ink

Step by Step:

First, I laid down a messy swipe of olive paint across the middle of the page in my Dina Wakley Media Journal. I then sprayed the yellow dylusions ink spray through the wallpaper stencil in a few places.

Next, using a mini-blending tool, I applied sedona and peacock through the numbers and hearts stencils. When adding additional layers to your background, try to keep in mind you are trying to create a harmonious composition.

I personally think black is a great addition to every composition and really grounds each piece. I picked a sheet out of the backgrounds collage paper package and tore a few pieces off. I glued them down with matte medium.

At this point I really felt like it was coming together. I made a decision for my focal point and stamped out the necessary parts. I stamped one from the scribbly wings stamp set and the scribbled silhouettes onto mixed media paper.

I colored the scribbly wings in with the Dina Wakley Scribble Sticks.

Next, I added various Dina Wakley Media washi tapes. Then I added a sentiment from the collage words set.

Lastly, I glued the wings to the silhouette and adhered it to the art journal page with mounting tape.
